However personal it is, everyone wants more. Right? Now, let's get impersonal for a moment.Okay, maybe it's personal, but since God said it (See Malachi 3:7-12), let's discuss it here.
God never intended the worldly government to take care of the poor. There, I said it. Now, don't go throwing away the social crutches before the leg is healed. After all, there may always be a portion of the population that chooses to remain poor. Why? Wealth requires effort! That effort first requires wisdom. And wisdom comes from God.
Let's not confuse intelligence with wisdom. Intelligence is knowing your options. Wisdom is knowing which is the best option to choose for long-term success in peace.
Those who develop themselves are required by God to share ten percent of their income with the poor (church or charity). Mind you, the church should not be poor (preferably) but it should feed the poor (food, clothing, shelter, wisdom through God's word). That ten percent we give systematically every time we get paid is called a tithe.
Tithing is God's way of leveraging. God owns 100% of everything on earth, yet asks that we share only ten percent of our income AND time with what concerns God. Support your local synagogue or church first, then send an additional offering to the charity of your choice.
Giving to GOD's temple first wraps the gift with prayer and hope for you, your family, and the poor. Sometimes that poor person is you (lacking health, wisdom, and/or integrity) and you don't even know it. But you'll be covered and God will then find subtle ways to help realign you.
God promises that if we (including the poor) read the word of God (Torah/Bible) daily, we will increase in wisdom. As we increase in wisdom, we get business ideas and career guidance which inevitably leads to more income and greater wealth.
That is ultimately, God's solution to end poverty. But we each must do our part. Giving (only) money to the poor keeps them poor. But giving them a warm meal, a bible, and a financial gift gives them hope and a future. Bringing them to temple or church to get their soul refreshed and encouraged for themselves, well that's just showing off. Now you've just forced God's Hand to bless you. And when God blesses you, life gets really good.
It's only ten percent of your time and ten percent of your money. You'll always have it to give if you choose to do it. Yet the returns (ROI) on your time, money, health, and faith will simply amaze you!
